Did we see again and again without being able to determine whether it is a very nice joke or a simple mistake: this is a very short sequence from a Charlie Chaplin film apparently shows a woman walking around talking on the phone.
The movie goes back to 1928, then we could rule out a deal with beta-tester of Motorola ... 
If ever you were to discover that it's all a hoax, we should pay tribute to the chart that is able to obtain such a likelihood.
But I'm more inclined to think that it is through the touch of a wet handkerchief or a bag of ice on the cheek, perhaps after having been to a dentist.
