The seven souls of Will Smith

Una scena tratta dal film "Sette Anime" Saturday night I'm locked into a multiplex with my better half. The intent was to spend an evening with light-heartedness. The week just passed was the kind that bruises they leave. So we moved from the center of Brescia with its immediate suburbs, where the Warner area. I found the flyer with the schedule of the evening in a shop run by a Slavic skinny, next to the cash register. I wanted to see "Yes Man", but only after a pizza with lemon delight in one of our favorite venues, run by real Amalfi. For the film with Jim Carrey, however, was almost sold out and "Milk" - my second choice for an evening of light-heartedness - gave him elsewhere. All that remained were "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "Italians", "Imago mortis" and "Seven Pounds" . I had the glasses, which are hard to reconcile with the use and disposable masks for 3D. Verdone is officially the least fruit from "Grande, grosso e Verdone". Scary movies even talking about it, including myself. There remained only the enigmatic gaze of Will Smith staring into space from a poster a couple of meters high. And so, ten minutes into the latest projections, we have opted for "Seven Pounds".

Buon compleanno Drupal! Today the community of the famous CMS Drupal is celebrating its first eight years of life. On 15 January 2000 Dries Buytaert fact published the first version of its bulletin board system. Only a year after the changes in open-source project that we know today. Perhaps not everyone knows that ... the name Drupal is simply the English transliteration of the Dutch word meaning druppel drop. The name comes from the now defunct project drop.org, site whose code slowly evolved to become the core of the first version of Drupal. Legend has it that Buytaert wanted to call the official website of his project dorp (Dutch Village) but made a typo when you checked the availability of the domain. Rereading, decided it sounded better drop.

Fabrizio De Andrè in una foto di repertorio The Fiddler Jones

In a whirl of dust
Beheld other drought
I remembered
Jenny's skirt
in a dance of many years ago.

I felt my land
vibrate with sounds
was my heart,
so why grow it again,
how to think better.

I saw the freedom to sleep
in cultivated fields
air and money,
air and love,
protected by barbed wire.

Il logo di FreeBSD Now available for download the latest release of tagged STABLE FreeBSD . This is the long awaited 7.1-STABLE, which introduces significant improvements compared to the previous and some - a few, in fact - new features.

Technically this is a second release of the 7-STABLE branch, and then remains unchanged in principle, the architecture, especially at the kernel level. Among the main changes, the development team announces the following:

The ULE scheduler is now the default in GENERIC kernels for amd64 and i386 architectures, support for using DTrace inside the kernel has-been imported from OpenSolaris; a new and much-improved NFS Lock Manager (NLM) client; boot loader changes allow, among other things, booting from USB devices and booting from GPT-labeled devices; the cpuset (2) system call and cpuset (1) command have been added, Providing an API for thread to CPU binding and CPU resource grouping and assignment; KDE updated to 3.5 .10, GNOME updated to 2.22.3; DVD-sized media for the amd64 and i386 architectures.

I must admit it: FreeBSD is by far my favorite operating system in server environments. Field experience and numerous published using benchmarks from top experts in the field do not admit it no doubt: FreeBSD is also light years ahead compared to Debian GNU / Linux distribution which for years have chosen to adopt in the server, a choice that depends only some purely practical factors, such as the ease of finding "workforce" able to work on Linux rather than UNIX and management much easier for security updates. But I continue to use successfully and - above all - with great satisfaction on some of my FreeBSD servers: when I find some time to upgrade to the new 7.1 I'll have my impressions.

Grafico dei bug release-critical di Debian Lenny Not that I want to join the chorus of eager thousands who post every day of conflicting information on the release of the new stable release of Debian. The fact is that this morning I took a ride on the official page of the release-critical bugs status and I could not help but notice the sharp decline in the green graph, that corresponds to the critical bugs that still must be resolved prior to switch to the new Debian 5.0 (codenamed Lenny) from testing to stable. In short, if there will be no more sudden spikes should be within a couple of months. And, from what I see, my prediction is also far too cautious. There are huge expectations surrounding this event: Debian remains the absolute reference point for those providing online services with high reliability. Cross your fingers, then ...
