Sun has announced the resolution of some serious security issues affecting the current versions of software, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). This is a series of vulnerabilities that allow an attacker, under certain conditions, to execute arbitrary code remotely.

The vulnerabilities affect mainly the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), or the virtual machine that allows users to run Java in your browser. The patches released cover versions of JRE 6 Update 6, 5 Update 16, 1.4.2_17, 1.3.1_22 and all previous releases.

The update is normally started by the same JRE. If for any reason they do not, you can download the latest version of the software at any time from here . Detailed instructions for installation, upgrade or uninstall any older versions are available here (in Italian).
